Student Leadership: Leadership is Service
At Wyndham Christian College, we see each student as a potential leader, someone who can develop their God-given mandate to be a light to the world. A large emphasis is placed on Christian character growth and discipleship. No matter what his/her role in life, our students can grow to serve on another, and be examples of compassion, integrity and vision.
Each year the College selects school captains, house leaders, and a student representative from each class. There are many opportunities available for primary students to develop leadership qualities. Students can always lead in areas such as their own personal lifestyles.
Leadership extends beyond the walls of College life. We are committed to having a positive impact on the lives of people in our local community through our students modelling and representing a Christ-like character by developing as servant leaders.
Other areas of leadership opportunity include:
- Prep buddies with Grade 3/4
- Environmental and Sustainability monitors
- Assembly assistants
- Organising class canteen distributions
- Collecting school data for our active transport program
- House Clubs activities
One distinctive to Wyndham Christian College is our House Clubs. Each fortnight, students in Grade 1-4 are split into their Houses to partake in a unique multi-age teacher-led learning activity: Sustainability Club or Outdoor Explorer Club. House leaders are trained and mentored during the year to be able to work with the leading teacher and group to assist in the successful running of the activity.
Wyndham Christian College is committed to actively engaging in the local community to serve and represent God in all that we do. Our students develop an awareness of being a part of a bigger picture and to stand out as a light to the world. There are a range of educational initiatives that provide a sound foundation across a range of academic subjects. We understand that young children learn best when they are highly engaged and remain motivated.
Clean Up Australia Day:
Each year students participate in Clean Up Australia Day. This simple act of service in the community demonstrates a responsibility, no matter how young, we all have to be contributors to sustaining the world that we live.
We are partnered with the organisation Envision, where students collect and donate bottle tops to Envision, who recycle them to make 3D printed bionic hands and other useful products to help those in need. Through our partnership, students have been inspired to innovate and renew for good purposes.
Wyndham Christian College has partnered with the Bicycle Network Victoria and the Ride2School program to encourage, empower and enable more students to get physically active on their journey to school. At the end of each week student leaders survey each class and tally up how many students had been active. We are aiming for a Gold Certification.
Each year children in Grades 3-6 have the opportunity to participate in Hoop Time. Hoop Time is a round robin style basketball tournament that also involves other schools from our local area. The children participate in several games over the day and also have the opportunity to support and encourage their friends from the sidelines. Parents can also become involved by coming along to cheer for their children or to assist with scoring their children’s games. The College is proud of the teamwork and encouragement demonstrated by our students.
Fortnightly Chapel Assembly
Each fortnight, we hold a Chapel Assembly where students and teachers come together to worship God, see what is happening in our school community, and celebrate student achievement.
Chapel Assembly is an opportunity for student captains and leaders to speak and encourage their peers in Christ-like behaviour and attitudes. There is always a chance to pray together.
